Savian.ca / TRINUS Technologies – Freelance Work

Blog article writing/editing, newsletter and social media distribution

Savian.ca is an award-winning Edmonton marketing studio I’ve worked with as a freelancer for many years. My most recent ongoing project is overseeing the TRINUS blog and newsletter, and providing input on other marketing materials including brochures and print material. I write both the bi-weekly blog post and bi-weekly newsletter/blog posts, and provide copyediting for their weekly cybersecurity newsletter. I also handle distribution via HubSpot and social media. Although TRINUS is a Savian client and it is the studio itself has engaged me to support their efforts with their client, I often work directly with TRINUS personnel. Please note that I was not involved with the original website and do not claim credit for any content outside the blog. All links are provided with permission from both Savian and TRINUS, and all material remains the property of Trinus Technologies Ltd.

I have written the vast majority of blog posts since late 2020, and have at least provided input on all posts from the beginning of 2021.

Softworks Group – Digital Brand Manager/Training Specialist

Website redesign and maintenance

Softworks Group is an Edmonton-based technology company. Beginning as the company’s Digital Brand Manager, I oversaw the redevelopment of the company website, a challenging but rewarding learning experience. Softworks Group had unique website needs for its two main products, Alinity and Synoptec.

Training video production and publication

Training video creation, including script writing, screen recording, narrating, editing and publication on the company YouTube channel. All videos are the property of Softworks Group.

Technical and training support articles

A series of web articles for the Softworks client base to provide both training and technical support on the company help desk. While I can claim credit for the vast majority of articles available here, the help desk was a shared space. Therefore, you may be required to sign in. All articles remain the sole property of Softworks Group.

The Problem with People (ECJ Final)

Published in the inaugural issue of the Earth Common Journal, “The Problem with People” is an academic paper that examines the underlying reasons for lack of action on global climate change in the public, private, and personal domains.

The Stupidest, Worst Idea Ever (Original APA version)

The Stupidest, Worst Idea Ever (Fancy Version)

Exemplary of the academic style of writing, “The Stupidest, Worst Idea Ever” is a case-study of the Diamond Shreddies advertising campaign that ran in Canada during 2008. The report was originally produced using APA-style and formatting, but, for fun, it was also given a makeover in InDesign, using colours designed to emulate the Shreddies cereal box, and improve readability.

When Twerking is the Top Story

A deep understanding of rhetoric is essential for writing and editing any kind of persuasive text. Both of the above writing samples are exemplary of the classic five-point disposition. “The Value of Being Obnoxious” is a forensic argument about the effectiveness of PETA’s bizarre advertising campaigns, while “When Twerking is the Top Story” focuses on the role of media in the deployment of hegemonic power.

Pinwheel

Published in The PROWlers: A Professional Writing Anthology, “Pinwheel” is a creative non-fiction short-short. Due to budget constraints at the time of publication, it was printed in an extremely small font size, with tightly spaced leading, so here is a version I put together in InDesign, using Creative Commons licensed imagery.

The Viral Undead

Finally, a fun, personal project, The Viral Undead was an ongoing creative blog project during degree. It’s told from the perspective of a young zombie inside a quarantine zone (Q.Z) established after an outbreak of deadly Z-1 on the west coast. It has nothing to do with anything other than the fact that I like zombies, and thought the idea of writing from the perspective of one would be fun.
